Adding Content to Your Site
The word "content" carries many meanings with it. It can be used as a noun, adjective, and verb depending on the context and meaning of the sentence. For purposes of this instructional program, content is used in its noun form. Content can be described as the topics or matter treated in a written work or the principal substance offered by a World Wide Web site. The content of your website is essentially what your idea is about. Think back to when you created your plan and the desired purpose of your website. That is what will drive the selection of your content to include in your website. For example, if you wish to create a website about how to cook, you may wish to include certain recipes, perhaps one for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. These recipes would be considered content in your website. Again, the word has many different meanings; however, this one is selected for the purpose of this program. |

Writing Website Content
Your website content is very important, as it is the backbone of your website. It is often said substance over style is needed. While it is important for your website to look nice and professional, the content is what makes your website meaningful.
Website content can take many forms. The writing portion is very crucial, as this will provide direction and instruction to your learners. If the writing is not done correctly, your learners may become lost or confused at what it is you are trying to have them accomplish. The writing on your website must contain relevant and important information. If the information is not relevant to the objectives, the learners will not accomplish them as expected. The writing on your website must be clear and grammatically correct. Not only does a website look unprofessional if it is not grammatically correct or clear, but it will also be difficult for the learners to understand what is trying to be disseminated to them. In addition, individuals most often do not read website pages the same way they do textbooks. Not all individuals will read webpages in their entirety. Individuals often scan website pages looking for the headings that are appropriate to them. Information should be brief and concise, but not shortened too much so that the learners will not be able to identify its meaning. Lastly, all learners have different learning styles that meet their educational needs. it is important to add content to your website to meet the needs of your learners. Use a variety of content that will appeal to all different learners. Text, images, videos, and music are just some of the many types of content that can be added to your website. Be creative, and again, make sure it is relevant to the objectives at hand. |
