Adding Pages to Your Site
Before you can add content to your website, you must add pages. Without pages, you cannot add content. If you wish, you can add a page and then add the content as you go. Many programs allow you to include as many pages as you want in your website. As you work on your site, you might get page ideas in your head. You can add them as you want and populate them with content when you get the chance. You can even begin to add content, save your work, and add more to the page later. |
Types of Website Pages
As mentioned before, the site type you selected to create your website will allow you to add as many pages as you need in order to make your site successful. The types of website pages you can add are endless, as you can add anything you want. Below, please find a list of standard pages and additional pages that you can add to your website with a little description about each. These are suggestions, so remember that you can add any type of page that you believe is relevant to your website!
Standard Pages to Include
Home
Your homepage serves as an introduction page where you can provide an overview of what your website is about. Your homepage can also display any recent events or updates that have occurred that you wish your learners to see immediately. The homepage is the first place your learners will visit, so this is a great place for these types of things. Site Map A site map page provides a guide, or table of contents, for your learners. They can see where pages reside within the website and where they can locate them. If you are able to, you can provide links to each of the additional pages, which will support easy site navigation for your learner. Content Your website may have a variety of content pages. These pages serve as the meat of your website and contain all the different topics and ideas of your website. They are often grouped in categories. You can create pages and subpages to include all relevant information for your learners to grasp the objectives at hand. About Us The about us page describes what your website is about, as well as who the authors(s)/instructor(s) of the website are. Your learners will want to know the purpose of the site as well as about the instructor/author. If your learners already know about you, this is extremely helpful for their parents and/or guardians. Contact A contact page allows learners to contact the author(s)/instructor(s) via email, phone, or mail regarding questions, comments, or concerns. Many times learners and users get stuck, or have question regarding content or help with the website. A contact page helps users feel at ease for the simple fact that if they have any questions, they can easily reach out to the author of the website. Frequently Asked Questions Everyone always has questions about certain things regarding your website. You can include a page with frequently asked questions to include the most common questions that you think may arise. Sometimes, if people cannot find the answer, they may use the contact page to ask you a question personally. After a question is asked and answered, it might be wise to add it to the FAQ page. If one person has the question, there is a good possibility that others will have the same question. Reference As mentioned before, including a links and media page may be included for reference. Another type of reference page that may be included is a reference page like a works cited page. This page would include a bibliography of all sites, text, images, etc. used throughout the website. Again, copyright laws are not something to take lightly, and it is important to cite your sources when necessary. |

Additional Pages to Possibly Include
Calendar of Events
Including an events calendar may be beneficial to your website. It allows the learners and users to see upcoming events, assignments, and so forth. It allows the learners to plan their schedules accordingly.
Survey/Evaluation
If you want to include surveys and evaluations in your website, having a separate page is helpful. It allows the learner to focus solely on the survey and/or evaluation. Surveys and evaluations can be about the instruction, the ease of use with the website, and much more.
Links & Media
Although links and media may be included throughout the website, a links page may be included if you have articles, videos, and so forth that the learners can reference. Having a comprehensive list of all links per topic or chapter may be beneficial as a reference for the learner. The possibilities are endless!
Copyright
Copyright laws are incredibly important whether it involves using technology or other media, such as textbooks, images, and so forth. Having a page devoted to copyright laws might be beneficial for ease of reference for the users. If the learner has any question, they can always reference this page before contacting the author(s)/instructor(s) of the website. If the website is geared toward learners in a school system, the school's honor code may also be included in this section.
Parents and Student Pages
If the site is used for educational purposes, having pages devoted only to parents and pages devoted to parents and students is beneficial. Since technology is being used in the classroom, the learners and their parents/guardian(s) can check assignments, grades, and other important information through these pages. Students can access their weekly assignments, listen to past lectures, and so forth. Parents and guardians can check the grades and assignment statuses through the page designated for them. These pages can serve many purposes, and it is all up to your needs, as well as your learners and their parents/guardians needs.
