Module 4: Producing & Publishing Your Podcast
Overview
Now that you have created your plan, selected your audio recording editor and podcast program, it is time to begin creating your podcast(s). Please note that you are not creating your podcast in its entirety until all three sections, Creating Websites, Creating Podcasts, and Incorporating Into Instruction, have been completed. If you have not signed up for the program you wish to create your podcasts, please do so. If you need assistance setting up your podcast, please refer back to the program you selected to help get you started. You can use the links below to quickly access the program you selected.
After you have selected your program, signed up, and created an account, you can begin producing your podcasts. Just like with everything else, having your plan at your finger tips is essential for producing your podcasts. There are several steps to take to produce your podcast. See below for help in beginning to produce your podcasts!
Grab Your Plan
You have already thought about your idea and identified your audience. Make sure you have this in mind, as your podcast will be about the topic selected and targeted toward the audience identified. It is imperative to pay attention to both your audience and the topic when creating your podcast. You want to make sure the content you add is both developmentally appropriate for your learners, and is arranged in a manner that makes sense.
Before you begin recording your podcast, you must plan ahead so it makes recording easy. You will want to plan the layout type, the outline, and the room set up before beginning to produce your podcast.

Select a Layout For Your Podcast
Before you begin recording your podcast, you must know what kind of layout you wish to record your podcast. The information that you wish to disseminate to your learners needs a specified layout. Some layouts include, but are not limited to lecture, interview, narrative, and conversation. The information that you are recording will play a major part in selecting the appropriate layout. Below, please find a list of the four layouts mentioned above with a brief description about each.
Lecture
Interview
Narrative
Conversation
As mentioned before, it is important to think of the topic you thought about during the creation of your plan to help identify a layout type that is suitable for your needs as well as your learner's needs. Ask yourself if any of the aforementioned layouts fits your podcast idea. If so, you can select one. If not, you can select a different format that would be most appropriate. Again, make sure it is developmentally appropriate for your learners to grasp the content being disseminated.
Lecture
- You can choose to lecture towards your learners about a topic that is being discussed. For example, if you want to share information about frogs and their life cycle, you can record the whole lecture in a podcast or several podcasts.
Interview
- You can choose to interview a particular person of interest towards a topic being discussed. For example, if you want to share information about WWII, you may interview a WWII veteran.
Narrative
- You can choose to share a story that pertains towards a topic being discussed. For example, if you want to share information about Tsunami's, you might share a story of events of what happens.
Conversation
- You can choose to record a conversation you and another individual are having regarding a topic being discussed. If you want to share information about politics, two individuals can record their opinions on the particular piece.

Develop an Outline
Planning your podcast is extremely important. Writing down the layout of how you would like to organize your thoughts, information, and idea topics is imperative. Placing your information in an outline will help organize the fluency of your podcast and will make it easy to remember while recording.
While there are a ton of ways to write an outline, and the outline size will depend on what information you want to include and how long your podcast will be, you can see a general outline below to help begin organizing your podcast. Again, it can be modified to meet your needs as well as your learners needs.

It depends on how comfortable you feel recording the content for your podcast with or without any aids. An outline can be created and is suggested to help guide your direction in your podcast, as well as to make sure all relevant and necessary content has been included.
