Virginia Standards of Learning
The Virginia State Computer/Technology Standards of Learning identify and define the essential knowledge and skills needed by students to access, evaluate, use, and create information using technology. The SOLs provide the instructor and the learners a framework that allows the learners to progress from physically to intellectually using technology. In addition, the framework provides progression for learners to acquire skills needed to work responsibly and productively within groups. |
Regardless of the grade, the Computer/Technology Standards focus on Basic Concepts and Operations, Social and Ethical Issues, Technology Research Tools, Problem-solving and Decision-making Tools, and Technology Communication Tools. These standards focus on using technology, not just learning about it. Let it be known that proficiency in computers and technology lays the foundation for continuous learning to occur in a digital society. Instructors can use this framework to help design their instruction to ensure that all aspects are being incorporated into core subjects of instruction.
