Webnode
Welcome to creating a website using Webnode. Please use the information below to help begin setting up your website. This is a general overview to acquaint you with one of the two website site editor programs discussed in this program, Webnode.
Should you need additional assistance with creating and setting up your website, you can visit Webnode's contact page, FAQ page, discussion forums, or contact the author/instructor of this instructional program.
You are able to click on each of the images below. There are some images that will expand in size to give you a better view at what is being discussed, or you will be brought to the respective page with a designated URL link.
Step One:
|
Webnode can be used by individuals, businesses, and educators alike. Websites using Webnode can be created by individuals for personal use or professional use. It can also be created for e-commerce, which are commercial transactions conducted electronically on the Internet. Just like many other sites, a user can select to create a website for free or one with cost options. In order to join Webnode, you must register. Once you sign up, you will be able to begin creating your website. |
Step Two:
In order to create an account with Webnode, you must sign up for an account. Once you get to the homepage, fill in al the necessary information and then click "Sign Up and launch your site." If the name you wish to create is available, the word "available" will appear in green next to the Webnode address title. If it is not available, the words "not available" will appear in red. |
Step Three:
|
Upon selecting a Webnode address and signing up, you will be prompted to complete three additional steps to finalize the rest of your setup so you can begin editing your website. First, you must select a website type. Decide if this is for personal use, business use, or e-commerce. Most likely, you will set this up for personal use or business use depending on the educational needs. Next, name your website. This will be the overall name of your website. If you wish, you can create a slogan, or catchphrase, which will appear on your website as well. Select the language in which you wish your website to display the content, and then click "Continue" in the bottom right corner of the screen. |
Step Four:
Next, you are directed to select a website template. There are several pages in which you can browse free and not free templates. Select any template that you wish, but remember you can always change it at a later date if you wish to do so. After you select your desired template, click the orange "Continue" button in the bottom right corner. |
Step Five:
|
The last step needed to complete your Webnode website registration includes selecting pages for your website. You are provided the option to select pages that have already been thought of and generated with content. Please check the appropriate box if you wish to add one or more of the pages. If you wish to add your own pages at a later time, you can uncheck all of the boxes. You can add as many pages as you wish at a later time. Once you have selected or unselected the boxes and are ready to move forward, please click the orange "Finish" button located in the bottom right corner. After you click finish, please wait a few minutes while the Registration Wizard finishes and prepares your website. |
Step Six:
Once the registration wizard is finished, you will automatically be redirected to your newly created website. Your website has information populated in the different boxes or sections. This can easily be updated by double clicking the box you wish to edit. There are also boxes within your website template that allow you to click and drag new content from the toolbar. When you double-click the box you wish to edit, the content is displayed in a pop-up window. Here, you can edit the content of your website. The toolbar above the content allows you to customize each box to your needs. For example, you can copy and paste information from another website into your current website by using the buttons located on the left of the toolbar. By selecting "Format," you can edit the size of the font. If you want to create a title up top just as displayed in the image to the right, you can select the appropriate heading. Then you can select the size font for the remaining text. You can bold, italicize, and underline text, as well as align it to the left, right, or center. In addition, you can create numbered or bulleted lists, add images, links, files, and tables. After you edit the content in the box you selected, make sure you click the blue "Save" box located in the bottom right corner. This will save any and all changes. If you do not want to save the changes you made, you can simply hit "Cancel." |
|
Step Eight:
Once you add a new page, a pop-up window will appear automatically titled "New Page." Here, you will be prompted to change the page name and enter in information regarding your page.
If you are ever unsure about what to do, you can click on the line and an additional pop-up window will appear to the right with directions on what to do. For example, the "Page Name" was entered, and to the right, a pop-up window appeared stating, "Page Name - Please enter a name for this page." Next, select this page's "parent page." The parent page acts as the main page in which your new page will be attached or connected to. If this is the first page you are creating, such as this one, the parent page will be your homepage. If you click on the space where "Homepage" is written, a pop-up window will appear with all of the pages created on your site. Finally, you will be asked to select a template. You have six different template options to choose from. Please see below for information about each template available. Blank Page

Step Nine:
|
Your new page will appear after you create it. You can begin editing your new page where you can change the layout, edit the content, change the theme, edit the settings, and more. The toolbar has a variety of options to choose from to edit your page to customize it to your needs as well as your learners needs.
The toolbar is divided into four sections. The sections include Items, Page, Content, and Miscellaneous. Under Items, you can add a new page, article, or list item, as well as easily maneuver to different pages within your website. The Page section allows you to publish the website on the World Wide Web, preview the website before actually publishing it, change the page layout, delete the page, and the view page properties. In addition, if you are a paid member you can apply security settings to each page. The Contents section enables you to add text boxes, which can then be double-clicked to enter in information. You can also add other content, such as polls, discussion forums, photo galleries, articles, lists, and widgets. Below, find a list of widgets that are specific to Webnode and external to Webnode, but can be incorporated into your site.
Embed HTML Code
The Miscellaneous section allows you to select the file browser, image browsier and website templates. In addition, it allows you to change your websites language if you have a paid website, as well as to view your the settings of your website regardless of your membership option.
|
Step Ten:
You can publish your website at any time. If you are working on your site and you wish to see what it would look like on the web, you can click the "Preview" button on the toolbar. This will allow you to see what your website would like on the web without actually publishing it to the web. There are two ways to publish your website to the World Wide Web. First, you can click the button "Publish," which is the third button from the left on the toolbar. Second, any time you make changes to your site, a yellow bar will appear across your website above the website, but below the toolbar. You can click the yellow "Publish" button to publish your website to the World Wide Web. Every time you make updates to your website, you will want to click the "Publish" button to ensure the most recent, updated version of your website is published to the World Wide Web. If you are a free member, a pop-up window will appear with an address written under "Page published!" with another option below it with a button in blue, "Register domain." The website address on top is the subdomain of Webnode that was initially selected to create the website account. This is the "free" website that will allow you to access your website on the World Wide Web. Click this link to publish and view your website on the World Wide Web. If you wish to pay for a specified domain name without Webnode in the URL link, you can click the "Register domain" button. You will then be taken to a page to purchase this website domain. Remember that you do NOT have to pay for a domain for your website to appear on the World Wide Web. As mentioned before, click the link under "Page published!" to access your free website address! |
|
Step Eleven:
Managing your Webnode website is easy! You can manage individual pages, or your site as a whole. For certain security settings, you will need to upgrade to a premium account.
To manage each page individually, you will need to select the page you wish to manage from the Items section titled "Go To Page." Once you are on the page you wish to manage, you can use the settings in the Page section to manage the page properties or the page layout. You can manage each page's properties settings. Click "Properties" in the Page section. A pop-up window titled "Page Properties" will appear where you can manage the page name, the web address, the parent page, the title, meta tags, and whether or not you want the page to show up in the menu. You can enter in as much information or as little information per page; it is your decision! To password protect particular pages or your website, you must upgrade to a premium membership. If you wish to change the layout of your page, click "Page Layout" in the Page section. A drop down toolbar will appear with different layout options. The one highlighted in yellow is the one currently used within your site. Select a different page layout if you wish to change the layout for this particular page. Each page can have its own layout; it all depends on your needs and desires! |
Step Twelve:
|
To manage your site as a whole, you will use the items located in the Miscellaneous section. Again, certain features, such as translating your website into a different langauge, requries you to upgrade to a premium membership. Each website allows you to have 100MB worth of files and images for free. To manage the files and images for your website, you can click the "File Browser" or "Image Browser." For each one, a pop-up window will appear with either "Files" or "Images" written in the top left corner. You can upload files/images, create folders to organize them, and so forth. If you need more storage space, you can simply purchase more storage space. You can see how much storage space you have used, and how much you have free in the bottom lefthand corner. This total encompasses both files and images for your website. To manage/change your website template, click "Website Template" located in the Miscellaneous section, and then select "Change Website Template." A pop-up window with all the template themes will appear. As a free member, you can select any of the templates that do not say "Premium" under it. Search for a template of your liking. If you want to select the template, click the template picture. You will then be shown a preview of what your page would like using that specific template. If you wish to use it, click “Use this template" located at the top of the preview page. If not, select “Cancel.” If you do not want to change your template at all, click “Close” located on the bottom right corner of the template pop-up window. You can also choose the "Advanced Settings" located under "Website Template" to get the Advanced Template Settings. This will allow you to add content to your webpage as you have previously learned, but will incorporate different aspects, such as the ability to edit CSS, or HTML code. Here, you can manage the header and footer of your website, the main point of contact, the layout of the website, and the content that you wish to add to your website. You can also use the Webmaster tools to edit your websites icon (favorite icon - Favicon) and/or to obtain website statistics through Google Analytics. Remember, any time you make changes, publish your website to the World Wide Web by clicking "Publish!" |
